Astrophotography
Howard Cox, a member of the Iowa City Astronomy Club, has taken several spectacular photos, and is a published astrophotographer.
Occasionally, Howard shows his “slides”. For those interested in asking questions about astrophotography, Howard has been very open to answering questions about his techniques and set-up in the past. These events are rare (maybe once every year or two), but keep an eye on the main page for more information about these meetings.
Below are some examples of Howard’s work from a couple of years back. Click on the thumbnails for larger photographs.

Dear Mr. Cox
i am really fascinated by you pictures. i am new to astro-photography. i want to buy my first telescope that purpose. what size of telescope is good to start with? will a 114mm work? what did you use for these photos? for example, the M31, what size of telescope did you capture it with?
Hello Mr. Cox;
I work with a student that is interested in both photography and astromomy, but I’m not sure how much he knows about astrophotography. Would you be available to meet with this student and share some information with him?
Thanks in advance
Melissa Silver
Mr. Cox,
I’m very interested in your techniques for obtaining these beautiful pictures. I would love to talk with you sometime about astrophotography
